The Briggs Group, a leader in the provision of marine contracting and environmental services, is set to become one of the largest operators of workboat vessels in the UK after securing over £50 million worth of contracts that will also drive further growth and development.
In the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 the UK tested its response to a deep water oil spill incident on 18th and 19th May 2011 by running Exercise Sula in Aberdeen and Shetland.
The Briggs Group has secured a new five year agreement with SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy). The deal will see Burntisland-based Briggs deploying tailored systems from among its fleet of 30 vessels to repair and maintain a network of over 500 kilometres of cable in some of the harshest marine environments in Europe.
Briggs Group – the UK based marine contracting and environmental services company – has been awarded a major £8m contract from BP’s UK Logistics to provide Terminal Operation Services at 8 fuel terminals.
Briggs has always taken the quality of the service provided to its customers very seriously and gained certification to ISO 9001 in May of 2002. In November 2006 it was decided to attain certification to the Environmental Compliance Standard ISO 14001 and the Safety Management Standard OHSAS 18001. New staff was recruited including Phil Richards our SEQ Manager, to design and implement the new systems to meet these Standards.
On Thursday 19th February Briggs Marine Salvage services responded to a recovery request of a ditched helicopter in the North Sea. The Forth Hunter was mobilised to conduct the recovery. The EC225 Super Puma, operated by Bond helicopters for BP, was engaged on a routine flight between Aberdeen and the ETAP oil platform, 150 miles East of Aberdeen, when she ditched 500 meters short of the oil rig.
Briggs Marine has won the contract for storage and maintenance of the Tactical Fuel Handling Equipment (TFHE) for the next 3 years. In September 2009 Briggs Marine took delivery of the Tactical Fuel Handling Equipment (TFHE) System from Salvage & Marine Operations of the MoD.
On the 10 September 2009, Briggs Marine received written instruction from the insurance company to recover the sunken Scallop trawler Aquila. Aquila sunk in July from a tragic incident off the North West coast of Scotland, between Ardnamurchan and Eigg; killing three of her four crew members.
