New Pilot Launches for Briggs Marine in Liverpool
To support the Company’s continued growth in the Port Services market, Briggs Marine has ordered three ORC 171 Pilot launches from Goodchild Marine. The vessels, which are to be delivered in 2017, are destined for Liverpool where they will form part of an ongoing process of fleet renewal in one of Briggs’ increasing number of long-term contracts.
The vessels are to be powered by twin Volvo Penta DMH 13 engines and the composite, twin chine hull is equipped with substantial polyurethane fendering arrangements. Careful attention to the design will allow fast replacement of rudders and propellers and this, combined with careful selection of machinery, will ensure that the vessels have a safe, long and productive life.
Briggs' Marine Services Director, Iain Ross, said: “The vessels were selected after a wide review of the designs available on the market and extensive discussion with our Clients. Like all ports, Liverpool presents particular challenges and we’ve been very careful to take these into account in the specifications. We’re particularly impressed with the ORC craft’s speed and comfort in heavy weather and the well-developed design, which offers significant fuel savings. Our experience in building at Goodchild has been extremely positive in the past and we’re delighted to be back working with them again.”
