VolkerStevin picks Briggs’ Forth Olympian as part of Thames Tideway Project

Vessels at Tower Bridge

The Forth Olympian is in London as VolkerStevin chose her for their Boat Relocation Project, which is part of the larger Thames Tideway Tunnel Project.

The crane barge was chosen for it’s high lifting capacity of it’s Manitowoc 4000 Ringer Crane, as the tubular steel piles, which are to be driven for the new boat landing, weigh 50 tonnes each and the pile hammer to drive them weighs 58 tonnes.

Prior to the commencement of the charter, the Manitowoc Crane was fully refurbished, with a completely new boom and back mast.

VolkerStevin has been appointed by Tideway to carry out enabling works, in advance of the construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, which will tackle pollution in the Thames.
