Portier Caterpillar Cable Engine for Hauling and Laying
The Portier cable engine can be used to haul cable for loading on to vessels and recovery of cable from the seabed. It can also be used to lay cable on to the seabed maintaining the correct amount of speed and residual tension.
The unit comprises an electric motor driving a variable displacement hydraulic pump to drive the twin kevlar reinforced caterpillar belts.
Water coolers are provided in the hydraulic circuit to stop the system overheating.
The squeeze load between the belts onto the cable is maintained utilising a series of air cylinders.
All controls are mounted on the face of the unit and include a variable speed and tension control.
