Briggs Marine’s continued promotion of a positive safety culture, backed by well-supported initiatives, has seen an impressive 123% increase in the company’s proactive health and safety observations in the last year.
The company’s high level of commitment to health and safety has not only seen a continuation of established safe practices but also the introduction of several new HSE initiatives which have been driven by the Board in the last year.
Designed to improve the overall safety culture across all Briggs’ business divisions, the initiatives include Safety Climate and Employee Engagement Surveys as well as Safety Reset workshops. Each of these have provided employees with the chance to share experiences with their peers as well as offering managers greater insight and allowing an opportunity to listen and improve working practices.
The renewed focus has clearly made an impact, with the company online reporting tool, ‘Assure’, recording an increase of 123% in proactive health and safety observations during the last 12 months.
Briggs Marine’s HSEQ Manager Scott Ward commented, “Myself and the Senior Management team are delighted to see a proactive approach towards our health and safety reporting, with clear improvement from 20/21 to 21/22”
He continued, “It’s fantastic to see such a large increase in these leading indicators coming from the front-line as it demonstrates that staff are becoming more empowered and therefore actively engaging in the safety management process”.
To ensure Briggs Marine act according to and within a timely manner to all safety observations raised, the company take a disciplined approach and ensure all actions are closed out by appropriate Managers within 30 days of being raised.
