Briggs Marine Survey Vesse

Overview

Full crewing and management of a number of the Environment Agency national Marine Management vessel, technical management of smaller vessels and rigid hulled inflatables and phased fleet renewal

This work involved the development of specifications for three 18metre catamaran vessels to provide a high degree of utility to tight budgetary constraints.

Our Work

Briggs Marine worked closely with Customers, Stakeholders and Suppliers to develop and populate clear design briefs and reviews. All of this occurred prior to moving to contract with preferred shipyards.

Briggs’ management team is experienced in dealing with often-disparate views on the optimum design characteristics and was able to develop options (often immediately) for the Customer to consider on site.

This approach allowed the Project to develop clear design objectives and significantly reduce expensive and wasteful concurrent engineering during the build phase. It also ensured that the vessel’s Builders could minimise re-work and hold points during the build and could advance to their own optimised build schedule, batching production where possible.

Such an approach lends itself greatly to a ‘safety by design’ approach and allows a seamless approach to development from design review to Hazard ID and Hazard Log development once the vessels are in service.

Whilst undertaking this work the depth and breadth of Briggs’ experience allowed it to seamlessly transition this significant contract.

Result

The EA contract is on going but Customer views are very positive indeed. The utilisation of the Company as a Marine Contractor has, we believe, provided value to our Customer’s business and early indications are that relationships will grow and provide more value over time.

The works to date have been provided within Budget and on time and a high score has been achieved against available KPIs.
