Oil Spill Responder of the Year

Jamie Campbell, Operations Manager of Briggs Environmental division has been awarded the ‘Responder of the Year’ at this year’s UK Spill Awards, which were held on Tuesday 26th February 2019 at The Waterman’s Hall in London.

The UK Spill Association awarded Jamie the top prize following his efforts over the past year to respond to various emergency deployments, mitigating the effects of oil spills throughout the UK and abroad.

Jamie said ‘After 20yrs in this industry I am very proud to accept this award. I believe this recognises not only my own but all the Briggs Environmental team’s dedication to providing an efficient and effective response to spills in the UK and world-wide.’

Unfortunately, Jamie was unable to collect his award in person as he and some of the team were responding to an oil spill in Limekilns, Fife.  Briggs have been on site since Wednesday 20th February, after residents in the local area reported a strong smell of oil and pollution was seen on the shoreline.

Briggs deployed booms in the Firth of Forth to contain the oil and have been involved with the clean-up operation, which involves removing approximately 500 tonnes of contaminated material.

Thankfully there appears to be minimum impact on birds and wildlife in the area.  Although samples have been taken and analysed by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), mystery still surrounds what caused the contamination and investigations will continue.
